Mandela Day 2020, the PSFA staff travelled to an impoverished town in the Klein Karoo called Zoar, with our main aim being to prepare and serve meals to over 1000 people. On arrival at the St Agnus Anglican Church Hall in Zoar, the PSFA staff immediately started cooking a nutritious luncheon that consisted of curry soya mince, rice, butternut and carrots.
While the food was being prepared, our director, Petrina Pakoe, financial manager, Morne Goosen, logistics manager, Tanith Hamman and fundraising manager, Charles Grey together with staff from HOPE Africa, the social development programme of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, visited Zoar EC Primary and Amelienstein LB Primary to hand out educational packs, party packets, bottles of hand sanitizer, masks, shoes and socks to the learners at these schools.
When the team arrived back at the church hall, hundreds of hungry people from near and far were lined up in front of the church hall, waiting in anticipation for their meals. We started serving lunch and handing out food parcels, hygiene packs and party packs to families from 12:30pm. We ended up feeding over 1 250 people.
PSFA wishes to take this opportunity to thank
Sneaker LAB and Selwyn and Glenda Atlas for the financial donations that were allocated to this activity, Andrew and Penny Hillock at
Mymering Guest and Wine Farm for the special rates for our staff accommodation, Kevin Lodge from
Top Events SA for the body lotions that were included in the hygiene packs and last but not least, Rev, Piet Minnaar and his team at St Agnus Anglican Church in Zoar for all their invaluable assistance on the day.

We are delighted to welcome on board three final year nutrition and dietetics students from VIVES University of Applied Sciences in Bruges, Belgium. These students will be spending the next 10-14 weeks at the Peninsula School Feeding Association as part of their paramedical internship.
Jolien Pillu, Bert Verschelde and Arnaud Octaef will be assisting our operations team with the planning and development of special menus, as well as conducting research studies on the impact of our menu provided for the children on our feeding programme – at our schools and early childhood development centres.
Jolien, Bert and Arnaud will also be spending invaluable time with our fieldworkers assisting them with collecting anthropometric data – this data will assist the students and PSFA with identifying any malnutrition cases within our feeding programme.
We wish them a happy learning experience at PSFA.

M-Kem 24/7 in Bellville, Mr Hylton Mallach’s 80th birthday, which took place in November last year, we recently received a donation from M-KEM and their suppliers in the amount of R20 014.50.
As per M-KEM’s request, the donation was used to purchase much-needed catering equipment for St. Clements Primary School in Grassy Park, Essenhout Primary School in Delft, Leiden High School, Delft, Range High School Matroosfontein, St Mary’s RC Primary, Retreat and Wellington Primary.
The equipment included pots, gas stove, serving spoons, can openers, PSFA aprons, wooden spoons and plates.

st Blisters for Bread in association with Lucky Star.
Thanks to everyone who entered, the event managed to raise a fantastic R604 920 from entry fees. PSFA will allocate 100% of this amount to providing 1 344 children affected by poverty with a daily nutritious breakfast and lunch while at school for an entire calendar year.
High profile Western Cape Government officials who walked on the day included Alan Winde, the Premier of the Western Cape, Debbie Schäfer, the MEC of Education, Anroux Marais, the MEC of Cultural Affairs & Sport and Sharna Fernandez, the MEC of Social Development. Dan Plato, the Executive Mayor of Cape Town kindly joined us at the start of 10km race where he said a few words.
With August being Women’s Month, Ministers Debbie Schäfer, Anroux Marais and Sharna Fernandez fired the starter’s gun at the 10km walk. Lourens de Waal, the managing director of Lucky Star, the main sponsor of the event, fired the starter’s gun at the 5km walk.
After crossing the finish line and collecting their medals and complimentary refreshments provided by Coca-Cola Penbev, the walkers were treated to an outstanding concert featuring top South African pop stars, Kerwin, Jarrad Ricketts and Paxton. As Jarrad began to sing the sun broke through the clouds. A big thank you to Heart FM presenters, Suga and Jeremy Harris for announcing at the concert.
This is what Lourens de Waal, the managing director of Lucky Star had to say “The Oceana Group, through its Lucky Star business, is proud to be associated with PSFA and such a great cause. On the day everything worked and the feedback has been positive all round. It was also very obvious that the dignitaries and celebrities loved being part of the event. My team worked well with yours. Well done.”

portion of this funding in the amount of R82 500, was allocated to providing after school meals to learners at Dr van der Ross Primary and Matroosbergweg Primary in Belhar.
This is the third year that PSFA has received funding from the Carmen Stevens Foundation for which we and the learners on our feeding programme are truly grateful.
