The Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA), in partnership with the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), Tiger Brands Foundation (TBF) and Breadline Africa, officially launched its Nutrition Support Programme and the presentation of a new kitchen at St Helena Bay Primary School in St Helena Bay on Wednesday, 21 October 2026.
The initiative strengthens access to nutritious meals for the school’s 1,114 learners, with the combined efforts of the four partners ensuring that every learner receives breakfast and lunch daily.
Through the WCED’s National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP), 446 learners, representing 40% of the school’s enrolment, receive daily lunches. PSFA provides daily lunches to a further 668 learners, covering the remaining 60% of the school population.
In addition, the Tiger Brands Foundation provides daily breakfasts to all 1,114 learners, helping ensure that learners start their school day with a meal. The new kitchen, sponsored by Breadline Africa and the Tiger Brands Foundation, provides essential infrastructure to support meal preparation for the school community.
Petrina Pakoe, Director of the Peninsula School Feeding Association, said the partnership demonstrates what can be achieved when organisations work together towards a common goal.
“When children have access to nutritious meals, they are better equipped to concentrate in the classroom, participate in their education and reach their full potential. This partnership is a wonderful example of how collaboration can make a meaningful difference in the lives of learners. By working alongside the WCED, Tiger Brands Foundation and Breadline Africa, we are helping to ensure that all 1,114 learners at St Helena Primary School receive daily breakfast and lunch. The new kitchen is an important investment in the school and its learners, and we are grateful to our partners for making this possible,” said Pakoe.
The launch highlights the importance of collaboration between government, non-profit organisations and the private sector in addressing child hunger and supporting education. By combining resources, funding and infrastructure, the partners are helping create an environment in which learners can focus on learning and building a brighter future.
