HEROES II Gala Concert: A Triumph for Art and Advocacy
Posted on November 29th, 2024 by Charles Grey
As a heartfelt tribute to the unsung heroes behind our school nutrition support programme, namely the volunteer food handlers, feeding coordinators, teachers, and principals, the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA), in partnership with the remarkable Lana English, presented the HEROES II Gala Concert at Artscape on Wednesday, 27 November.
The evening was a tremendous success, highlighting remarkable talent and generosity. A near-capacity audience enjoyed stellar performances from an outstanding line-up of artists, including Lana English, Victor Siljeur, Sian Atterbury, Loren Erasmus, Faried Swartz, Moe-ain Daniels, Sienna Jayne D’Oliveira, Izzy Gomez, Alyssa Isaacs, and the Masikhule Community Orchestra, conducted by Christopher Siljeur. They were joined by the Constantia Primary School Choir, the Philharmonia Choir of Cape Town, and the Drums and Pipes of the Cape Town Highlanders, all receiving a well-deserved standing ovation.
A special shout out to Regina Malan, the concert director, whose exceptional talent, dedication, and generosity brought the vision of HEROES II to life.
The evening also included the launch of Moe-ain Daniels’ new music video for his latest single, Wanna Make You Happy, written by Tony and Clive Ridgway. It also featured an exciting raffle featuring a grand prize of a three-night stay at the Maison Montagne Guesthouse in Franschhoek, valued at R9,000. Debbie de Wit was the fortunate winner, with her ticket drawn during the interval. The raffle raised an impressive R12,300 for PSFA, making a significant impact.
Beyond the captivating music and celebration, the HEROES II Gala Concert had a higher purpose: raising awareness and vital funds for PSFA’s mission to ensure no child in school goes hungry. Every ticket purchased, donation made, and applause given contributed to this crucial cause, helping children thrive academically and beyond.
PSFA extends its heartfelt gratitude to the following who made the HEROES II Gala Concert an outstanding success:
- The audience, for their steadfast support in buying tickets and attending the event.
- Lana English, for producing this extraordinary show and selecting PSFA as the beneficiary.
- Artscape, for generously providing the theatre and its services.
