UTCT 2017- 100km, 65km, 35km race on Saturday 2 December 2017, to raise funds to feed underprivileged school children.
J-FRED’s fundraising target for this project is R54 000, which will enable PSFA to provide all the learners on our feeding programme at Mandalay Primary School with daily meals while at school.
The members of J-FRED hereby appeal to you to please support their campaign by making a donation in any amount to PSFA. This can be done securely on our website www.psfa.org.za.dedi817.jnb1.host-h.net, post us a cheque with a cover letter or make an EFT payment into our bank account. Please use the reference ‘J-FRED’. 100% of all donations made in support of this amazing campaign will go towards feeding these children.
Julius Oosthuizen says “J-FRED’s first big event was the Ultra Trail Cape Town race in 2016”, where a few of us ran the 65km event and the majority of the group ran the 35km. This year two of us have graduated to the 100km at UTCT, we have one member who is taking on the 65km for the first time and we’ll all be out in force in the 35km as well”.
“Before the 2016 event we decided as a group to support a charity while taking part in UTCT,” says Julius. “We chose the Shine Literacy Campaign, where a number of us are involved as volunteers as well, and managed to raise just over R25 000. This year we decided to select PSFA as our charity of choice because as runners, we know how important good nutrition is, and the thought of being able to help needy children through a school day, makes our participation in UCTC that much more meaningful.”
About UTCT
UTCT is part of the international Ultra Trail series of races, which are known for being extremely challenging and technical. The 100km event involves more than 4,000m of vertical ascent, which is the equivalent of climbing Table Mountain four times, and includes varied terrain like rocky paths, forest trails and sand. About J-FRED
J-FRED is an informal trail running group consisting of nine people which was formed in 2016. All of the members are close friends, and the idea behind the group is to encourage each other to keep training consistently and push their trail-running boundaries. The group tries to meet for a regular long run on the weekends, and then also to do some stair / climbing work on Table Mountain mid-week.
J-FRED does not have any formal websites or Facebook pages, but if you would like to support the campaign you can email Julius directly (julius.oosthuizen@gmail.com), and he will provide you with more details.
