Ferrellgas donates R436 150.00 to PSFA to enhance gas safety at school kitchens.

On Friday, 22 November, Ferrellgas Partners, L.P. (OTC: FGPR) announced a generous donation of $25 000 (R436 150) to the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA). This contribution will enable numerous schools participating in PSFA’s nutrition support programme to obtain Gas Compliance Certificates for their kitchens and equip them with gas stoves where needed.
The donation was made as part of LPG Week, an annual global gathering of propane marketers and their vendor partners hosted by the Paris-based World Liquid Gas Association (WLGA). This year’s event took place from 18 to 22 November in Cape Town. The announcement was marked by visits to two schools supported by PSFA.
PSFA Director Petrina Pakoe and her team hosted representatives from Ferrellgas, the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA), the World Liquid Gas Association (WLGA), and the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association of South Africa (LPGSA) to showcase the impact of their school nutrition support programme. The visit, which took place at HJ Kroneberg Primary School and Axios School of Skills, highlighted the positive outcomes of their generous donation. During the visit, the schools were gifted new three-burner gas stoves and catering equipment. As a token of appreciation, each school presented a gift to Michelle Maggi, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Ferrellgas. Some students expressed their gratitude through heartfelt songs and dances.
“Propane is a global solution to the challenges posed by outdated and hazardous cooking technologies,” said Zertuche. “The employee-owners of Ferrellgas are proud to support PSFA with this donation and to showcase how propane can be a safer and more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fuels.”
Petrina Pakoe expressed PSFA’s gratitude for Ferrellgas’ support: “We are sincerely thankful for this generous contribution, which will significantly enhance our school nutrition programme. This donation will allow us to assist schools in meeting the costly gas compliance regulations, ensuring they can continue preparing meals efficiently and safely. Gas is the most cost-effective and efficient method for cooking large quantities of food. We are inspired by Ferrellgas’ commitment to environmental health and their dedication to the well-being of children in South Africa.”
Pakoe also emphasised the importance of such collaborations: “Partnerships like this are essential in empowering us to sustain our mission of providing nutritious meals that support children’s education and well-being.”
The WLGA highlights the dangers of traditional cooking methods, noting that indoor air pollution caused by smoke from open fires and outdated stoves claims approximately 4.3 million lives annually. Alarmingly, someone dies every eight seconds due to the inefficient use of biomass fuels, with women and children being the most affected.
This meaningful partnership between Ferrellgas and PSFA not only supports safer and more sustainable cooking practices but also underscores the vital role of corporate social responsibility in uplifting communities.
