Chores for a Cause: children giving back through hard work

Posted on March 25th, 2025 by Charles Grey

At the Peninsula School Feeding Association (PSFA), we are always inspired by the kindness and generosity of our supporters—especially when it comes from young hearts. This term, we were delighted to receive an email from Megan Grey, who shared an uplifting initiative called “Chores for a Cause” that she ran with her children and their friends. The concept is simple but powerful: children complete household chores, and instead of receiving a personal reward, their efforts are converted into a cash donation for PSFA.
On Tuesday, 25 March, Charles Grey, PSFA’s Fundraising Manager, arranged a special visit for Megan, her children, their grandmother and their friends to Westlake Primary School to witness our feeding programme in action. During their visit, the children had the rewarding experience of serving meals to less fortunate learners, providing them with nourishment and a sense of care.

As part of this heartfelt initiative, Megan and the children presented Charles with a generous donation of R7 278 that was raised by the Chores for a Cause initiative. This contribution will enable PSFA to provide daily breakfasts and lunches for an entire year to eight children affected by poverty. Their hard work and selflessness will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need.

Megan shared her thoughts on the experience, saying, “I am so amazed by the work that you do and am humbled by the incredible impact that you have. I am very grateful to be able to help, even if it is in a small way.”

PSFA sincerely thanks Megan, her children and their friends for their inspiring generosity. Their dedication to making a difference is a shining example of how even small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. We hope this story encourages others to find creative and meaningful ways to support the fight against child hunger.
