Blisters for Bread in association with Lucky Star, raises R703 536 to feed 1,050 schoolchildren for a year.

On Sunday, 25 August 2023, over 7 000 participants, ranging from families to friends of all ages, braved the cold and rainy weather by gathering at the Green Point Cricket Club to take part in the Peninsula School Feeding Association’s (PSFA) 56th Blisters for Bread in association with Lucky Star Charity Family Fun Walk.

The event, featuring 5km and 10km walks along the scenic Sea Point Promenade, raised an impressive R703 536 through entry fees and donations. This amount will enable PSFA to serve daily nutritious breakfasts and lunches to 1 050 schoolchildren affected by poverty for an entire year, a direct and significant impact of everyone’s contribution.

The walk attracted high-profile attendees, including Western Cape Premier Alan Winde, MEC for Education David Maynier, MEC for Cultural Affairs & Sport Ricardo Mackenzie, and Cape Town Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews. Oceana Group CEO Neville Brink, Lucky Star Managing Director Lourens de Waal, and PSFA Chairman Brian Benatar joined them.

After completing the walk and receiving their medals—because everyone who participates in Blisters for Bread is a winner—participants enjoyed complimentary refreshments provided by Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages. They were then treated to a fantastic live concert featuring top South African artists Jarrad Ricketts and Krista Mafakala Jonas and lucky walker number draws with lots of prizes up for grabs. Heart FM presenter Gershawn Coetzee and PSFA fundraising manager Charles Grey co-emceed the concert, adding to the day’s excitement.
